Next Fireside Chat: How Modern IPAs Came to Be (June 7)

The Breakside-Beervana Fireside Chat Series
Setting the Record Straight on How IPAs Came to Be
Wednesday, June 7 at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern
Live on Zoom (link)

We are very excited to announce the next Beervana-Breakside Fireside Chat! Tune in next Wednesday to hear a murderer’s row of hoppy talent set the record straight about IPAs. Expect myths to be debunked, legends dispelled, and old bar tales summarily dispatched. Where did this tradition start? Are West Coast beers just about the bitter? Did hazies change everything? What did West Coast breweries take from the east—and how much did East Coast breweries crib from the west? Are there actually two different traditions? Just one? Dozens? American brewers, in reinventing IPAs, have changed the way the world makes beer. But how accurately do we understand our own story? We will get to the bottom of this once and for all.

To help us untangle this, we have quite the lineup:

  • Noah Bissell, Co-founder of Bissell Brothers Brewing (Portland, ME)

  • Vinnie Cilurzo, Co-founder and Brewmaster, Russian River Brewing (Santa Rosa, CA)

  • Alexandra Nowell, Technical Advisor to CLS Farms and former Director of Brewing Operations at Three Weavers Brewing (Inglewood, CA)

  • Mitch Steele, Co-owner and Brewmaster of New Realm (Atlanta), former Brewmaster of Stone Brewing

At our last, also-spectacular discussion—you can still watch it here—your humble host accidentally locked out most of the crowd. Interns have been sacked, bucks passed! This time we will have no such gaffes. Please tune in live to check out the conversation, and possibly even pose a question to our guests. Honestly, this one is going to be a dandy, so don’t miss it. See you next Wednesday!
